David Johns, the staff presenter, told the board the district has completed a first year of work under its strategic plan and built a public dashboard to track progress. "My intention tonight is to share with you, some, successes and celebrations for the system," Johns said as he introduced a video and described a shift to month‑by‑month data check‑ins.
Johns said the district will emphasize three priorities in the near term — thriving student body, thriving workforce and family/community engagement — and will increase the frequency of academic updates tied to screener data so the board can see progress earlier in the year. Johns also described the district's effort to align school‑level needs assessments with district goals so actions at each school feed the central dashboard.
Board members asked for more granular enrollment and outcome counts for programs and for clearer definitions of metrics such as staff attendance and the district's chronic absence thresholds. Johns said some state academic data remains embargoed and that the district expects to share the state report card and additional academic indicators in October. He also proposed bringing a thriving‑workforce update earlier in the school year to address retention and professional learning needs.
The board did not take formal action on the strategic plan presentation at the meeting; Johns said a memo with proposed language changes to several goals will be on a future consent or action agenda so the board can vote on formal goal updates.
