Wheel It Forward losing Stamford space; AARP tax-help and library programs reported

During Old Business on Jan. 21 Commissioner Peter Eder updated the Commission on several community-service items. He said Wheel It Forward, which partners with the Darien Medical Loan Closet, is losing its Stamford facility and is searching for a new location while expanding operations in Bridgeport and Newtown.
Eder also announced that AARP tax assistance will begin Jan. 26 at the Darien Library and will be offered Monday, Friday and Saturday. He summarized a recent Connecticut Commissions on Aging (COACT) meeting involving representatives from 59 towns that covered senior housing, taxation, medical benefits and the roles of local commissions. Eder said AARP is monitoring supermarket facial recognition technology for privacy concerns and is advocating for a tax credit for family elder-care providers and expanded absentee-voting options; no formal town action was taken on the advocacy items during the meeting.
Library programming was also noted: a jazz program drew approximately 130 people, and the library will rebroadcast Metropolitan Opera performances monthly from January through April, beginning with The Magic Flute.
