Transfer-station traffic revision proposed to move public queues off highway at CTR

Josh, an operations presenter, told the commission that the county and transfer-station operators plan a traffic-revision project at the Central Transfer Station to improve safety and remove long queues from the adjacent highway.
"700 to 1000 a day of 3rd party vehicles," Josh said when describing peak third-party volumes. He explained the plan is to route public vehicles beyond the existing scale shack to a lower yard, add a scale shack and install scales there so that the on-site queue extends farther onto property instead of onto the highway.
Staff estimated the revised queuing area would add roughly "about 2 football fields" of length and said the project should eliminate the majority of highway backups on the busiest days. The work is intended to reduce near-miss incidents and improve safety for both drivers and transfer-station workers.
Project partners said the change is operational (not a capacity increase) and that further design and implementation details will be shared with stakeholders. No final construction dates were announced at the meeting.
