County reports high participation at household hazardous waste events; latex paint largest material by weight

Amanda, who leads household hazardous waste work for the county, gave data from three collection events and highlighted participation and material breakdowns.
At one site Amanda said "latex paint, which is 46% of the total items that were are brought to that event." She reported per-event totals such as 17,730 pounds at one location (about 93 pounds per vehicle on average) and higher household participation at Ridgefield and other sites where combined spring-cleanup activities increased turnout.
Amanda said paint, resins, adhesives and used oil were among the top materials collected and that staff will create reusable booklets and multilingual outreach next year to sustain event turnout. She also acknowledged contractor support: "We actually have Waste Connections. They always give us a few people to use for Richfield and the center."
Staff said they plan continued outreach with paint retailers, translate materials and coordinate with partners to keep collection options widely available; no regulatory changes were proposed during the update.
