The City Council voted to reroute an exposed sewer line on FM 54 and County Road 217 after staff advised that erosion in the current right-of-way made repair in place unreliable. City Manager Ray Resendez told the council that securing the line in its current location would not guarantee protection from future erosion and recommended a longer route to the north using poly pipe. The city estimated the project cost at between $133,000 and $180,000.
Mayor Eric Turpen moved to approve the longer reroute; Council Member Jason Ayala seconded the motion. The motion passed with 4 ayes and 1 absent (Buddy Holmes). The council directed that the project proceed under the approved routing and materials; specific procurement steps and exact contract awards were not decided at the meeting.
