Romulus council approves two fleet purchases totaling about $127,403

The council approved two piggyback procurements to update public-safety and service vehicles. The first authorization was to piggyback on a contract with Lafontaine Ford Grand Rapids to buy a 2026 Ford F-150 XLT for the Cable and Community Service Department at a total cost of $62,281.24. The second approved piggyback (including a Macomb County contract reference) authorized purchase of a 2026 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 and required upfitting at a combined cost of $65,122 (vehicle $53,678 plus upfitting $11,444).
Mayor explained the purchases as part of a longer effort to replace old equipment: "When I first took over as DPS director about, 15 years ago, average fleet in Romulus fleet vehicle was 38 years old ... I think, at last count, we were on average for Romulus citywide fleet, 12 years old," he said. Finance director Gary Harris confirmed funds were budgeted and available. Council voted to approve both procurements by voice vote.
