Public commenter urges clearer local attribution for Patuxent watershed data, seeks access to Hunting Creek

During public comment, Bob Estes asked the commission to clarify a line in the draft that states impervious surface in the Patuxent River watershed increased from 7% to 14% since 2014 and that growth in Calvert County "has not significantly contributed" to that increase. Estes said the wording is confusing and urged staff to show Calvert County’s specific contribution to the watershed change so the public can judge local responsibility.
Estes also questioned the purpose and expense of several proposed connector roads that would cross wetlands and suggested improved, carefully designed access to Hunting Creek to increase public awareness of local waterways. He offered to provide a recent impervious-surface report on the ACLT website and to give tours to commissioners so they can see the waterways firsthand.
