The Calvert County Planning Commission voted March 19 to approve a conceptual site plan for maintenance buildings at Ward Farm Park (CSPR 143,263). Principal planner Christine Fenimore told commissioners the proposal covers tax map 6, parcels 54 and 70 (about 209 acres) and would add a maintenance building just over 4,000 square feet and an equipment shed just under 4,000 square feet, plus outdoor storage, security fencing and 12 parking spaces; a traffic-impact analysis is under review by Public Works.
Commissioner Gadway moved to approve the concept site plan with the conditions recommended by staff; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Parks staff said the facility would be built in phases as funding becomes available and that the county is seeking state funds (Calvert County Youth Recreation Opportunities funds were cited) to support development. "We utilize Calvert County Youth Recreation Opportunities funds to develop Ward Farm Park," a parks staff member said when asked about funding and phasing.
The staff report, agency comments and the park master plan are in the commission packet; staff recommended approval but noted that next steps include finalizing conditions and following the Department of Public Works review of the traffic analysis. The commission did not identify any dissenting votes on the motion and recorded the motion as carrying.
