Board urges special-education input on furniture; staff says accessibility is a priority

Board member VanderMeelen urged the district to involve special-education staff in furniture decisions for the new buildings to ensure chairs and other classroom furniture accommodate students who "move differently" or need alternative seating. "Can we make sure that special the special ed department is involved in the decision of furniture?" VanderMeelen asked.
Scott Chiak said the district has had conversations with Nancy and her group (special-education staff) about setting up educational spaces for students with different needs and that principals are involved in furnishing sessions. Chiak also said the facilities team has purchased roughly 60 fans this summer to help schools without AC and will replenish units as needed.
