Waunakee High School reports higher AP participation and scores; district targets broader access

High school leaders presented results showing increased Advanced Placement participation and high achievement across many courses. The district reported a 14.6% increase in AP exams taken and compared school performance to national averages, citing 91.3% of scored exams earning a 3 or higher (national average ~72.5%) and 30.6% earning a top score of 5 (national average ~17%).
Administrators said participation and performance rose together and outlined strategies to broaden access, including face-to-face invitations to students identified as having roughly a 50% chance of passing on preACT-linked data and the ongoing Eagle Opportunity Schools partnership to encourage underrepresented groups to take AP exams. The high school also plans to expand its course catalog with AP Chinese, AP microeconomics, AP Seminar and AP Research to give students more opportunities.
"Participation and performance are rising together," one high school administrator said while presenting comparative slides, and staff noted the district will continue targeted outreach so students who can succeed in AP courses receive encouragement and waivers where eligible to remove financial barriers.
