Council approves consent agenda including Fire Station 6 land purchase; residents ask for revised station-site analysis

The council approved a consent agenda that included ratification of accounts payable ($1,981,035.88 dated 08/04/2026 and $3,465,726.56 dated 08/11/2026), a purchase authorization for up to approximately 2.0 acres at 2010 South 3rd Street West for Fire Station 6 (purchase price at $27 per square foot not to exceed $2,352,040), and a $293,009.83 contract for Missoula Development Park stormwater work. Claire Trimble read the consent items into the record before council took public comment.
During public comment, Gavin Ose asked council to exclude the Fire Station 6 land purchase from the consent agenda and to rerun the station-location model because the closure of the Johnson Street shelter may have altered call volumes on which the site decision was based. Fire Chief Lonnie Rash said the siting study looked back over a five-year period and he had not yet reanalyzed the data to say how much the closure would change the outcome: "I do anticipate that it would collect those numbers, but I right now have not reviewed those numbers specifically as to how what percentage that would change." He offered to review the numbers further with the chief and staff.
