Staff displayed and described a first-phase parks-signage program that uses modular cedar framing and brand-aligned panels to standardize park entrances and wayfinding; staff said the panels will be high-contrast with clear fonts and replace older signage in phases. The system is designed to allow easy panel replacement if vandalized and to accommodate smaller add-ons such as stickers or QR codes.
"Where we have a city logo, identifiable. City blue, same thing. Clear font, high contrast for ease of visibility," said the staff member (S3), describing what commissioners would see in the sign examples. Commissioners asked that future sign phases consider interpretive content, translation needs and historically meaningful names; one commissioner asked whether the official name should read as "Poulsbo's Fish Park," and staff confirmed that is the official wording being used in the design.
Staff said the framing approach should make future updates and translations less costly and allow interpretive kiosks and trail wayfinding in later phases. Commissioners encouraged inclusion of historical context and Spanish-language translation for outreach to the city's Hispanic community.
