EMS wins contract with ZOLL; chief seeks CARES registration and signals fee increases

Grand County EMS moved to change billing vendors after an evaluation of multiple vendors. Deputy Chief Bill Clark told the board the department recommends ZOLL Data Systems of Broomfield on a per-claim pricing model of $5.35, with projected volume around 170 claims per month; commissioners approved the contract and authorized the chair to sign.
Chief Wingate also asked to register the department with Colorado’s CARES (Community Assistance Referral and Education Services) program so EMS crews can proactively engage with repeated 9-1-1 users and link them with community resources; commissioners authorized submission and signature. Wingate previewed proposed fee schedule changes for EMS standby services, including raising short-notice fees (a proposed $500 fee for notice under 30 days and $1,000 for notice under 7 days) and aligning dedicated event standby hourly rates with the state resource-rate form. Staff said public hearing on fee changes is set for Sept. 23.
