Committee approves community survey, asks staff to implement edits

The committee voted to approve a community survey intended to be the panel's primary public-input tool and directed staff to implement recommended edits and distribute it to the community.

Chair introduced the survey as a months-long effort that was streamlined to focus on the committee's charge and to produce programmable results. Emily Shreeves, the committee's staff liaison, said the draft prioritized quantitative items with optional text fields so respondents could decide how long to spend. "I just specified and made an edit to have it be a multi select," Shreeves said, describing a change from drop-downs to checkboxes for some items. Committee members also flagged timing: "The Calvert County Public Schools has put out their end of year community parent survey, so we certainly don't want to overlap," a member said, and the group agreed to avoid inundating residents with multiple surveys in quick succession.

The motion to approve the survey with recommended amendments was moved by Speaker 9 and seconded by Speaker 2; Chair called the question and the motion carried on a voice vote. Staff was instructed to make the edits discussed and proceed with distribution once timing and the final draft are confirmed. The committee noted the survey will supplement in-person meetings to broaden public input.
