Grand County approves $168,915.20 contract for Granby Landfill geomembrane installation

David Buckley, Road and Bridge, briefed commissioners on the Granby Landfill project and the need to install a geomembrane overlay this fall under a Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment grant. Buckley said the installer proposed an overlay liner for drainage that would replace material hauling; the project will add roughly 20 feet on each side and an additional 200 feet to the south.
"As of what you see right now in the box is what you'll be signing, which is the amount of a $168,915.20," Buckley said, explaining the state had approved shifting grant dollars to cover the higher installation cost after negotiations. The board voted to accept the quotation and authorized the chair to sign the contract so contractors can lock in a fall installation date before the grant and seasonal constraints make it impractical.
Why it matters: the installation addresses landfill stability and drainage to reduce movement and potential groundwater impacts; county staff said monthly surveys and biannual water sampling continue and that earlier interventions dramatically slowed site movement.
