Council authorizes beer garden for Pauls Brew at Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park

The Poulsbo City Council on April 9 authorized the Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce to operate a beer garden at Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park for the Pauls Brew special event, planned for the third weekend in September.
Jeff Ojimek, representing the Chamber, asked the council for an exemption to Poulsbo Municipal Code 12.30.080 to allow alcohol service at the waterfront event. “The Chamber would like permission to run the Pauls Brew down at Waterfront Parks,” Ojimek said, describing the request as routine and noting staff from the Chamber were available to answer logistical questions.
Event organizer Mariana Smythe told the council last year’s move from Poulsbo Village to Waterfront Park “was fantastic,” with live music in the gazebo, long lines, and strong public turnout; staff estimated the festival used about half the park footprint and left space for other users. Smythe said the event included accessible ingress/egress points and volunteer-managed entrances.
Councilmember McVay moved to authorize an exemption and the motion passed. The mayor confirmed the festival’s date as the third Saturday of September; staff will finalize conditions tied to park footprint, access and traffic controls as part of the special-event permit process.
