Resident urges council to restore historic fair parade route after last-minute change

Mike Gallien, who said he has been involved with the fair for decades and will serve as grand marshal, told the council he learned the parade application was submitted late and the route was changed so the event will start at a church parking lot instead of running through downtown. "The city of Langley, someone representing them, denied the access to the old parade route," Gallien said, urging the council to consider restoring the prior route for next year.
The presiding officer asked Chief Tapia Wasser to follow up with Gallien on the details of how the change occurred; Chief Wasser acknowledged and agreed to follow up. Council members expressed appreciation for Gallien's long involvement and said staff would investigate the application timeline and decision-making that led to the route change.
