Public works updates: smart meters, LIP water main service meters and 6th Street striping timeline

Public Works Director Randy Perry told the council the meter replacement for services connected to the new LIP water main has begun and that the new meters will send data to the cloud and integrate with the finance system. "This will save us a lot of operating, duplicating meter reads... and improve our efficiency," Director Perry said, noting property owners will eventually be able to access their usage data and that continuous monitoring will provide earlier alerts for unusual circumstances.
Director Perry also updated the council on wastewater treatment plant nutrient-optimization equipment start-up (grant-funded and fully expended) and on a new walkway on 6th Street where punch-list items must be finished before line striping. Council members and residents said speeds have increased since paving and urged faster striping; Perry said contractors prefer to finish punch-list work first and that the contract allows completion by October, though he is pushing for mid-August.
