He said internal range masters will conduct transition training, so no additional training contract costs are anticipated.
Separately, the department reported it received a Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC/WOSPEC) grant to purchase radar units and handheld sobriety-screening equipment; staff asked council to acknowledge receipt so the grant can be appropriated into the budget.
Council members asked if the dollar figure covers reserves and whether the accessories will fit the new pistol platform; the chief said the current accessories are proprietary and not cross-compatible. The council agreed to place the handgun replacement on the consent agenda for approval and acknowledged the grant receipt.
