Council approves hour-extension for Viking Fest street dance

Lynn Heino, the city's special-event coordinator, introduced event organizer Kathy Forsey, who said the street dance has been run in prior years and is popular with attendees. "It's very popular," Forsey said, and she noted the event stops if it rains. Council members asked clarifying questions about location and logistics before the motion to approve the variance was made and seconded. The motion carried on council voice/roll-call votes.
Council members recommended that city staff publish the Viking Fest dates (May 16–18) for publicity and coordination, and noted that the variance is a narrow approval — an exception to the noise ordinance for one specified event night only.
