Chief Wingate said Kentfield is a certified EMT who works many events and requested part‑time work "through the end of the event season" to help with coverage and event staffing; the board voted to waive the applicable personnel policy provision and approve the exception.
Chief Wingate also briefed commissioners on recent site visits and a pediatric readiness designation: "Both sites actually scored a 97 on their national pediatric readiness program score," he said, noting that national research shows scores greater than 87 are linked with substantially lower mortality in critically ill and injured children. Wingate said local participation in the accreditation process and collaboration with hospitals and EMS contributed to that result.
Commissioners voiced appreciation for Kentfield's decades of service and for the EMS team's role in the readiness process; they approved the personnel action and the related waiver by voice vote. The chief indicated the retiree would retain county insurance options for a short transition period and that retirement benefits were arranged to begin Sept. 1.
