Poulsbo council confirms Maureen McKimann as municipal court judge

McKimann introduced herself to council members and described a career spanning roles as a prosecuting attorney, public defender, pro tem judge and private practice. “I am also a member of this community. I live in Poulsbo and raised my family here,” she said, and added she looks forward to building on the foundation left by Judge Tolman after his 31 years on the bench. City Administrator Rob Gelder outlined the recruitment and interview panels that produced the mayor’s recommendation.
Council members asked procedural questions about the length of the appointment and reappointment process; staff explained the current appointment fills the remainder of the term and reappointment will follow the city’s normal process for four-year terms. A council member moved to confirm the mayor’s appointment and approve the employment contract; the motion carried on a roll-call vote recorded in the meeting minutes as unanimous.
Next steps: McKimann will assume judicial duties April 7, and the city will return to council in late 2025 if a further appointment or reappointment process is required.
