Claymont Board shortens 2025–26 school year and adopts new 2026–27 bell schedule

The Claymont City Schools Board of Education on April 13 approved two calendar and schedule changes: moving the final student day for 2025–26 to May 22, 2026, and adopting new bell times for 2026–27. The calendar change was approved on a roll‑call vote; the board then approved the new daily start and end times for each building.
Board members said the bell times were adopted after a discussion with Transportation and Cafeteria Supervisor Eric Henry about bus routing and after‑school activity impacts. The adopted 2026–27 schedule is High School 7:40–2:40, Middle School 7:50–2:50, Elementary 8:05–3:05, and Primary 8:15–3:15. The board recorded unanimous approval of the calendar change (Mrs. Host, Mrs. Wolf, Ms. Campbell and Mr. Peters voted yes) and subsequently approved the instructional time changes by roll call.
Superintendent Brian Rentsch framed the item as a response to routing and activity‑time considerations; the board approved proceeding with the schedule for the upcoming year while monitoring transportation effects. The district will implement the adopted times for the 2026–27 school year and evaluate any operational impacts during the year.
