Todd County solid waste director urges speed on MPCA contract and warns of potential landfill regulation costs

Director Mike (speaker 19) also warned that the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is considering requirements for lined landfills that could push disposal costs in the county from about $18 per cubic yard to roughly $40.50 per cubic yard and increase annual operating costs substantially. Commissioners discussed regionalization options and asked staff to pursue MPCA contract activation so grant funds can be drawn. "We are currently absorbing all the cost of the operation right now at a 100%," the solid waste director said; the board asked staff to work with legislators and state contacts to expedite the funding contract.
