The Fremont City Council voted 7–0 to authorize city staff to apply for supplemental Safe Streets for All funding and to permit the mayor to sign all necessary grant documents.
Angie Olsen, the city’s grant coordinator, told the council that supplemental funding would help the city better define priority projects and strengthen future implementation grant applications. “We would like to apply for that in order to better define some priority projects,” Olsen said. Councilman Horner thanked Olsen and reiterated that matching funds and coordination with existing projects will be important as staff pursues additional grants. Staff and consultants said the action plan will allow the city to “mirror” existing project work with grant-funded elements to maximize funding opportunities.
The authorization clears the way for staff to prepare and submit a supplemental SS4A application and positions the city to pursue later implementation funds should they become available.
