Committee members debated who should receive the search-criteria survey and settled on a list that includes elected officials, senior leaders and the outgoing city manager, John Nessel; members estimated about 13 recipients.
"I don't think it hurts," said one committee member while discussing including the outgoing manager in the survey. Members expressed concern about over-including participants such as board members or potential newly elected officials who may lack context. They agreed Cindy Resmer would distribute the survey and forward completed responses to Brett Bauer for analysis.
The group also discussed timing around the municipal election and early voting (May 9) and agreed the May 8 date is preferable for candidate interviews because May 9 begins early voting and would make the chambers busier. Bauer said he will have the candidate profile and grading matrix ready for review at the May 12 personnel meeting, after which the committee will consider approving the recruitment brochure and opening the 30-day application window.
No formal motions or votes were taken at this meeting; the committee recorded action items and next steps for staff and the consultant.
