Ephrata approves five-year Axon services deal after vendor review, officials say it lowers annual costs

The Ephrata City Council adopted Resolution R26-048 to approve a five-year services-and-licensing contract with Axon for 2027 through 2031. The chief of police told council the city reviewed alternatives (CoreForce, GTAC, Motorola) and elected to separate hardware purchases from service licensing to reduce annual recurring costs.
"I think it runs, just a hair over 12,000 a year as opposed to what we're currently paying at 33,000," the chief said, adding that hardware would be run as a separate line item and that the city expects to save a couple thousand dollars per year under the new arrangement. Council discussed the contract length and passed the resolution by voice vote.
The chief said officers had tested other vendors and that some options were competitively priced but did not meet the department's needs; no council member asked for further technical evaluations on the record before the vote.
