Ephrata council approves short Axon contract extension to align budgeting

The Ephrata City Council voted to approve Resolution R26-047, a short contract extension with Axon that will carry the city's body-worn camera and related services through Dec. 31, 2026. The chief of police described the agreement as a "gap contract" meant to synchronize the contract cycle with the city's annual budgeting, and told council the extension costs "just over $5,000".
"So this initial contract is a gap contract," the chief said, explaining the short-term extension is intended to avoid having to budget the same service twice in one year. The chief asked for a motion to adopt R26-047 and council moved, seconded and approved the resolution on a voice vote. The action was presented as an operational timing decision rather than a policy or program change.
