Lake Forest CHSD 115 highlights 95.7% student engagement, expands extracurricular offerings

District leaders presented a multi-part report on extracurricular engagement that highlighted strong participation and plans for program growth. Ashley Malek, director of student activities, told the board, “our engagement, as of today, is 95.7%,” and described outreach efforts (freshman outreach, QR resources, activity buses and ID-based tracking) used to raise participation.
Athletics and activities numbers presented by the athletic director showed robust offerings and multi-season participation: the director cited 647 students in fall athletics, 237 in winter and 640 in spring for a total cited as 1,524 student athletes, and said the district sees many multi-sport students. He also highlighted bowling’s expansion — now in its third year — and said the program will be presented to the budget team for consideration as an IHSA sport. Administrators said the activity bus and targeted outreach reduced barriers for students to participate and that staff will continue follow-up for the minority of students not yet engaged.
