Dr. Kane Osborne presented highlights from a CIC learning visit and told the Lake Forest SD 67 board the visit produced more than 60 commendations and recommendations focused on promoting active and meaningful student participation.
Osborne cited district investments such as co-teaching and practices that support classroom participation, and he recommended structures — including CHAMPS and Kagan cooperative strategies — that the visiting team observed as contributors to accessible participation. “Establishment of CHAMPS and Kagan Cooperative Structures to contribute to learning environments that make access to meaningful participation possible,” he said while summarizing the team's observations.
Osborne also described student focus groups conducted during the visit and flagged metacognition and consistent supports for executive functioning as areas for continued development. He emphasized that the report is not a checklist: the district should select the most relevant recommendations to amplify existing work rather than attempting to implement every recommendation at once.
Osborne offered to support the district’s follow-up work with Superintendent Fitzsimmons and district leaders, and the presentation concluded with the visiting team’s willingness to facilitate next steps as staff prioritize recommendations for strategic planning.
