Board amends concussion protocol to require removal from physical-education class when concussion suspected

The board approved a narrow change to the concussion-awareness policy (series 5712) to clarify that a student reasonably suspected of sustaining a concussion should be removed from practices, games or from a physical-education class. "The new part is for physical education class... when the student is reasonably suspected of sustaining a concussion during a practice or game, or class," the superintendent read aloud to the board.
The Chair called for the policy motion, which was moved by Joel and supported; the board adopted the policy series 2000–5000 with that one exception explicitly noted and corrected. The superintendent said the clarification "makes perfect sense" and that the policy was already functioning with the clarified intent.
