Council Member Cheryl Birdwell moved to postpone demolition and to have the city pay for sheet metal to cover the archway; the motion was seconded by Council Member Steven Longoria and passed by a 3-2 vote.
Council members had been considering a quote to demolish and clean up the structure but opted to give Puente time to address the issues. The meeting minutes record the outcome as "Three (3) in favor, Two (2) opposed; motion passed." The minutes do not list individual yes/no votes.
The motion includes a directive that the city provide material to board up or cover the archway at the structure while the owner works on securing the site. The council briefly reorganized the agenda, hearing item No. 2 (a recognition) before returning to the demolition matter.
