Buda staff says Robert S. Light turnback to TxDOT could change maintenance responsibilities

A commissioner asked whether the section from I‑35 to Loop 4 is county maintained or under TxDOT, and staff replied that portions are county managed now but a 'turnback' is proposed that would place Robert S. Light under TxDOT jurisdiction and later transfer segments to the City of Buda. The director said the city is updating its transportation mobility master plan to envision 967 as a future city roadway if the turnback occurs. "So Roberta's Light is technically county from I‑35 to Loop 4... Ultimately, the intention is for Robert S. Light to be completely under TxDOT's jurisdiction," staff said, and promised to forward TxDOT materials to commissioners.
Commissioners raised traffic‑management concerns for local residents, including questions about medians and how to make southbound movements more functional. Staff said TxDOT and Hays County design work and the county's bond program are coordinating signal and widening work and that staff would provide details to the commission and public as they become available.
