Burton utility update: Water Well #5 drilling underway; system water loss at 5.76%

City utility staff and the contractor briefed Council on operational matters affecting Burton’s water and sewer system during the July 8 meeting.

Utility materials and the contractor report indicate that Water Well #5 drilling is under way (work by C. Miller Drilling) and that the Water Well #5 test hole has been finished with samples sent to TCEQ for testing. Contractor Dustin Lozano told the council, "the WWTP generator will be placed shortly because the concrete pad and transfer switch has been installed," and also warned that "when the well drilling comes to the cementing phase, WW#4 will be shut down for approximately 24 hours." Staff asked residents to conserve water during the temporary shutdown in case storage is insufficient.

The utility report included system metrics: for the month reported, water pumped totaled 1,656,900 gallons, water sold 1,261,490 gallons, water used for fire and flushing 300,000 gallons, and water loss recorded as 95,410 gallons (reported as 5.76%). The packet also shows meter counts and revenue/receivable summaries used for utility financial tracking.

Council heard that the City Hall lift station has been repaired and that crews will address a small landslide; a valve for a main water supply pipe will be installed in the TxDOT right-of-way once scheduled with TxDOT, and a valve on the FM 2780 line will be installed to minimize water loss when TxDOT disconnects a private water line.
