Burton creates four-person committee to review subdivision ordinance

The Burton City Council on June 10 approved creating a four-person panel to review land division and subdivision ordinance options and make recommendations to council within 90 days.
The committee will be led by Councilmember Paul McLaughlin and include Sheila Ripple, Chuck Johnson and Joan Rogers. City Secretary Angela Harrington told the council the panel will review ordinances from comparable small cities (Carmine, Fayetteville and Round Top), the previously rejected Burton ordinance and the De Laune Estates covenants, and identify provisions that might benefit Burton. Councilmember McLaughlin moved to create the committee and Councilmember Nathan Kalkhake seconded; the motion passed with recorded votes 'FOR: Eckhardt, Tidwell; AGAINST: None.'
The decision comes after public comment from resident Susie Tommaney, who asked council not to consider a subdivision ordinance and recommended including a real-estate expert if council proceeds. The committee has a 90-day review period and will present recommendations to the council for further action.
