During public comment at the July 8 Burton City Council meeting, resident Johnnie Pitts asked if residents would be able to review any proposed property ordinance before the Council considered it.
City Secretary Angela Harrington responded that a public hearing will be required for the council to consider that type of ordinance and said, "once the Public Hearing is published a copy of the ordinance proposed will be on the website and available at City Hall." The secretary’s statement indicated that the normal public-notice and hearing procedures will be followed before Council action.
The exchange did not include a specific ordinance text or a scheduled hearing date; Harrington said the public hearing requirement and posting would occur once the hearing is published. No formal agenda action was taken on a property ordinance at this meeting.
