The Burton City Council approved a Park Use Application from the Burton Beautification Association for "Fun in the Park" on Oct. 4, 2025, with a rain date of Oct. 18, and granted a variance to Rule 13 (which otherwise prohibits amplified music).
In a letter included with the packet, David Zajicek, treasurer of the Burton Beautification Association, wrote: "Our event will be on October 4, 2025 from 2pm to 7 pm., with a rain date of October 18, 2025. We have applied for and been approved for a one day insurance coverage through Great American Insurance Group. We will have security as well through the Washington County Sheriff Department." The packet also notes that the association requested the amplified-music waiver under the park rules; the council approved the waiver and the park-use application.
Council's approval included a specific variance to Rule 13 allowing limited amplified music for the event (the association said it will feature a singer and karaoke, not a band). The motion to approve the park use and variance passed on a council motion; the minutes do not record a detailed roll-call for that vote.
The event application lists expected attendance at about 50 adults and indicates the association will indemnify the city per the use agreement. The city secretary's packet notes there are no permanent restrooms or pavilions at Laas-Weeren Park and that renters must leave the park free of debris.
