Boyne District Library donates lending machine to high school; no cost to district, vendor demos functionality

The board heard from Monica Peck, director of the Boyne District Library, about a donation of a book-lending machine for the high school. Peck said the district's EDU cards provide access for all students and that the machine—positioned in a high-traffic place near student displays—will expand access beyond the bookmobile and allow students and community cardholders to pick up holds at any time.
"I'm Monica Peck. I'm the, the library director at the Boyne District Library," Peck said as she described outreach to elementary and middle-school students, noting the library currently issues EDU cards to 1,354 students and the children's circulation numbers (6,009 books for 2025). Vendor Fred Goodman of International Library Services demonstrated that a patron scanning a library card can browse a machine's on-screen collection and that "within 10 seconds, the door opens up" and dispenses a held item. Peck told the board the Friends of the Library and a Carnegie Corporation gift will fund the machine and that there is no cost to the school.
Board members asked about placement near alumni composites and logistics for faculty access; administrators said the composites will be relocated a few feet and the machine's location will allow faculty and visitors with cards to use it. No board vote was required for the donation.
