Superintendent announces resignations, board approves new hire for middle school social studies

In her superintendent report Dr. Foley announced two personnel changes: Holly Stoneton, the district's gifted/talented teacher, will retire at the end of the school year, and Sue Fawcett, named in the meeting as the director of special education, will resign effective Feb. 13 for health reasons. Dr. Foley thanked Fawcett for 5.5 years of service to Winthrop Public Schools.
Separately, the board accepted a motion and voted to employ Patrick Hasson as a middle-school social studies teacher. Dr. Foley recommended Hasson, noting he finished his student teaching in May and citing his ability to establish rapport with students and strong communication skills. The board welcomed the new hire at the meeting.
