Several downtown business owners and residents addressed the commission during public comment, urging transparency and asking the city to keep the Ida Cox Summer Concert Series on the greenspace rather than moving it fully to the Ritz. Olivia Adams (207 Howard Road) and Jessica Handwork (47 Doyle Street) led the remarks, saying the change lacked notice in the minutes and warning that relocating the event could erase roughly 15 years of downtown progress tied to family‑oriented greenspace programming and events such as Roots Rhythm and Rails.
After hearing public concerns, Commissioner Terry Carter moved and Commissioner Gail Fry seconded that staff coordinate with Main Street and the Downtown Development Authority to re‑establish the Ida Cox Concert Series for June and July; the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Ron Matheson thanked citizens for speaking and said he would meet with Main Street and the DDA to pursue next steps. The minutes note citizens requested transparency on decision timing and votes and that a search of minutes back to November showed no prior discussion of the change.
