Board appoints Aaron Storz, hires middle-school principal and approves new executive coordinator role

The board moved to appoint Aaron Storz to fill an unexpected vacancy on the Winthrop School Board with a term ending Dec. 31, 2026. The motion was seconded and the Chair announced a unanimous vote welcoming Storz to the board.
On staffing, Superintendent Dr. Foley recommended Jay Shorette as the next Winthrop Middle School principal for the 2026–27 school year, citing 25 years of experience in education and leadership. The board moved and approved the recommendation; Shorette thanked the board and said he expects to begin in July.
The board also approved a newly formalized executive administrative coordinator job description that combines the transportation director role with an assistant-to-superintendent function. Dr. Foley said the arrangement — which builds on an interim solution — results in significant cost savings for the district, estimated at "over $100,000 annually." The motion to approve the job description carried unanimously.
