Planners outline AOT scoping study for downtown sidewalks; Safe Routes to School mentioned

The commission discussed planning for sidewalks in the town center and the steps required by the Vermont Agency of Transportation. Chair Rich Turner told members that scoping work will be required and that AOT "requires 2 public meetings and one meeting has to be warned as part of the application process." Turner also noted that the State has preferred engineers for the scoping work.
A participant suggested the sidewalk project extend from Route 64 to Construction Hill and include safe crosswalks for students; the participant also said the project could tie into the Safe Routes to School program. Commissioners noted they may need additional design assistance for sidewalks beyond available RPC support.
