City Engineer Eddy Daniel told the council Aug. 13 that the wastewater treatment plant’s existing manual bar screen requires frequent raking and risks backups as the city grows. He recommended installing an automatic bar screen that continuously rakes solids to prevent blockages.
Council approved the proposal unanimously after a motion by Mayor Pro Tem John Verity and a second from Council Member Justin Poppelreiter. The minutes record the council’s rationale: to reduce manual maintenance and avert possible plant backups.
