Director lists bond projects, trails and city events during ZBOA meeting

Angela Kennedy, director of development services and liaison to the Zoning Board of Adjustments, delivered a director's report highlighting the city's current projects and community events.

Kennedy said the 2021 bond program is a $98,000,000 package that includes roadway and parks projects. She reported the Tally Loop reconstruction contract was awarded at the Sept. 17 council meeting and that an interim Main Street improvement project is under design to add an additional lane and improve traffic flow near IH‑35. Trail projects going to bid include the Garlic Creek Trail (between Elm Grove and Garlic Creek neighborhoods) and the Onion Creek Trail, which will extend through Garrison Park; bidding for these projects is planned for mid- to late October.

Kennedy also reviewed events and outreach: library programs, a dance walk, Ballet Folklorico, National Night Out on Oct. 1, Buda Restaurant Week (Oct. 13'20), a Halloween event Oct. 26 at Buda City Park and the Rail Car Revival music festival on Nov. 9, for which the city is still accepting vendors. She offered to provide follow-up information on vendor permitting and said railcarrevival.com is the registration site for vendors.

Board members asked about the status of the old train depot; staff said the property owner had offered the building but family concerns and potential demolition plans left the matter uncertain and dependent on future sale contract terms.
