Superintendent Rob Virgen used his Aug. 10 update to describe transition efforts during his first month in the district and to preview work for the 2026–27 school year.
Virgen said he met with principals, leadership teams, trustees and community partners, reviewed performance and operational data, and convened a leadership council retreat to build cohesion. He listed four themes guiding his work: focus on what’s happening in classrooms, measure the district's impact, multiply impact through relationships and ground work in belief that actions make a difference. "All of our work is rooted in student success," Virgen said.
He also described operational preparations for the year: principal and teacher welcome events, building leadership activities, bus-driver and facilities kickoffs, and attention to enrollment and staffing. Virgen said the district is using a strategic road map adopted in 2023 as a foundation and that leadership exercises during the summer were designed to strengthen alignment and readiness.
Board members praised the outreach and invited continued collaboration as the year starts. Several trustees thanked Virgen for visible community engagement and for bringing a clear framework to his transition work.
