Highway Foreman Mike Hastings presented a detailed proposal for a new highway garage at the July 22 meeting, describing a 10,000 square‑foot building (50 feet by 200 feet) with eight bays, a tools-and-parts room, an office, restroom and break room with lockers. To avoid triggering an expensive sprinkler requirement, Hastings proposed two independent sides separated by firewalls.
Hastings said he had examined Topsham's new garage as a model and recommended steel construction as the most cost‑effective option. Selectboard members and Capital Budget Chair Tony O'Meara discussed sizing and cost ratios and asked staff to identify comparable stamped plans and state model designs.
