Newbury treasurer reports emergency services over-budget in mid-year review

Town Treasurer Mary Collins presented mid-year budget comparisons for the General Fund and Highway Fund and reported that emergency services are over-budget, attributing the overage to increased call volume, higher fuel prices and repair work. Budget Advisory Committee member Marvin Harrison, speaking as a member of the Fire Department Steering Committee, attested that the Fire Department is cautious about ordering repairs only when necessary. Chair Susan Culp relayed that Wells River Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Jeff Morin has noted several new crew members are being added, a factor the Board said will be considered as it refines training and staffing costs for 2027.
