Arcola operators and engineer report progress on water plant expansion and wastewater projects

City Engineer Lawrence Turner and the municipal water operator provided detailed updates on infrastructure projects during the May 13 council meeting.
Turner said the Arcola water plant expansion has a pre-construction meeting set for May 20 and that notice to proceed will likely be issued in early June for the ground storage tank and booster pumps. He also said the wastewater treatment plant permit expansion is pending TCEQ review. Turner reported a separate construction contract for a 450,000-gallon expansion has been executed and a pre-construction meeting will be held within weeks.
Operator Luis presented operational metrics for the March 20–April 21 billing period: 968 service connections (17 vacant), freshwater production of 6,054,000 gallons and billed gallons of 5,000,766 (about 95% accountability), average flow and total flow figures, delinquent account counts, and said the wastewater plant is operating at roughly 55% of its permitted capacity and was in compliance with sampling and inspections. Luis told the council the recent TCEQ inspection showed no violations at the plant.
