The Arcola City Council approved up to $47,500 to run the City Hall summer program this year after staff explained the program will operate in-house instead of through a nonprofit partner. Officials said the change requires the city to handle intern payroll and adapt programming to fit the available budget.
Staff described scaling some activities compared with prior years — including field trips and transportation — but said core program elements and returning interns will remain. A payroll representative confirmed the city’s payroll provider can process intern stipends. “It will still be the same quality,” a staff presenter said, describing plans to preserve the program’s core offerings while fitting costs to the approved allocation.
Council member Rosemary Bigby moved the authorization and the motion carried.
