Mayor Vita B. Williams and staff described a recent town hall where engineers identified critical spots. The mayor said the city could join interlocal purchasing programs (referred to in the meeting as TIPS) to access vetted contractors. “We want to try to alleviate some of the problem prior to hurricane season getting started,” the mayor said during the presentation.
The motion to authorize the work was moved and seconded and the mayor announced the motion passed by the council. Council members emphasized that this authorization is for focused, limited segments rather than a full-city overhaul and that further surveying and profiling would precede contractor work.
